Here is a guide to wording your invitations!
Have an etiquette question? Feel free to reach out!
Next is the inviting line, here are some of the most common options:
Request the honor of your presence
Request the pleasure of your company
Invite you to share in the celebration of marriage
Next up, the couple’s names!
The woman is always listed first. For same sex couples, names should be listed in alphabetical order.
If the bride's parents are hosting the wedding and her last name is listed above, there is no need to repeat it here. The bride's first and middle name should be listed. The groom's full name should be listed.
Reply Card
For a mail back reply card make sure to include:
Reply by date (4-6 weeks before the wedding)
“M” line
Accepts/Regrets options
Meal choices or a line for dietary restrictions
For online replies make sure to include:
Reply by date (4-6 weeks before the wedding)
Wedding website
Who is hosting the wedding?
If this is the parents, we can use either their formal titles, or a more casual listing of their names:
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
or
Jane and John Smith
If the couple is hosting the wedding, we can use “Together with their families” or just start out with the couple’s names!
The Details
The ceremony date and time comes next. Remember to spell everything out, no abbreviations.
Following the date and time is the location. The location should be listed using its full title as well as the city and state. The address of the location is not necessary, unless it takes place at a residential home.
If the reception is at the same location as the ceremony, include something along the lines of “Reception to follow” or “Cocktails, dinner, and dancing to follow.”
Info Card
This is the perfect place to include any additional information, such as accommodations, transportation, attire, and the wedding website.
Accommodation information should be listed with hotel name, address, and phone number.
If other events are happening the wedding weekend (Welcome Party, Sunday Brunch) this card is where to include those party details!
We work closely with all of our couples to figure out the perfect wording for your invitation suite. Send us a message to get started!
